Overview
About Your Course
The Graduate Certificate provides the transition during the year of professional practice following graduation from the BA (Hons) Architecture, which gives students an exemption from Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 1.

This period involving collaboration between education and practice is the formative period for acquiring professional attitudes. The course develops the concept of the 'reflective practitioner' and lays the foundation for continuing development throughout the professional life of an architect.
Benefits of studying this course
The course is a pre-requisite to the study of the Master of Architecture (part 2).

Practitioners have a major input into the two study units which are held during the year out. The course aims to enhance a graduate's appreciation and understanding of their professional obligations and responsibilities within the construction industry, as well as to clients, employers, the profession and society at large.

Modules
Core modules include:
Introduction to Architectural Practice
Graduates will attend two study units which include workshops and professional role play. The content is professionally orientated, but allows monitoring of the progress of the student.
Record of Architectural Practice
The RIBA/ARB operates an online scheme for recording practical training, the Professional Experience Development Record (PEDR). Full details of the scheme and requirements may be accessed through www.pedr.co.uk.
Reflection / Personal Evaluation
The personal evaluation is a written appraisal by the graduate covering the initial period of professional experience. It should state the lessons learned, with good and bad procedures clearly distinguished and analysed.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and modules may change from time to time.
Programme Specification
Teaching & Learning
Two, three day study units.
Your Future
Future Career
The years following graduation, and RIBA/ARB Part 1 exemption, are the time when the student confirms a commitment to the practice of architecture.

Upon successful completion, you can then progress onto the Master of Architecture which
provides exemption from RIBA/ARB Part 2.
