Overview
About Your Course
The course gives exemption from the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 2 examinations. Visits are arranged to study outstanding architectural examples of the building types forming the subject of student-centred design programmes.

This course is research-based with design studio as the core activity and the focus of investigative and creative endeavour. Principal themes of the course are integrated sustainability and post-industrial urbanism. These are studied with particular focus on the city and region within a European context with reference to global imperatives.

The course operates design units with different areas of focus that provide programme choice and the opportunity for specialised studies, and a pluralist approach to design. Through the selection of design units and programme, students are encouraged to develop personal interests and an individual approach to architecture.
Benefits of studying this course
This course offers high quality, creative design education as a basis for qualification and practice as an Architect whilst fulfilling Part 2 requirements for Architects Registration Board Prescription, Royal Institute of British Architects Validation and the QAA Architecture Subject Benchmark for final award programmes.

You will have access to an excellent learning environment which includes new multimedia studios equipped with drawing boards, computers and model-making facilities, a state-oft-the-art library and IT suites and specialist workshops.

Context studies
Contextualises your design work within a broader framework of a historical, sociological and geographical canon. You will examine the historical, cultural and symbolic backgrounds of the late-capitalist city and relate this to current issues in architecture.
Design studio
This module introduces you to the level of design thinking needed at postgraduate level and in particular, specialisms associated with your choice of studio unit. Design studio is a series of open-ended, problem-based learning modules, specifically aimed at developing integrated solutions to architectural problems. The MArch takes a unit-based approach to this, offering a series of units taught my staff following their own particular specialisms and interests.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and modules may change from time to time.
