Overview
About Your Course
This course satisfies the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 3 requirements for final qualification and registration as an Architect.

Whilst working in architectural practice candidates attend a series of inter-professional lectures and workshops in conjunction with specialists from practice and the construction industry. These are arranged as one, two or three day study units (nine days in total). The course integrates academic content with work experience during the final 12 month period of practical training experience.

It is by nature a professional course designed for suitably qualified applicants to complete their studies in architecture to qualify as an Architect and register with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) in the UK.
Benefits of studying this course
The course is designed for suitably qualified applicants to complete their studies in architecture and become members of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and register with the Architects Registration Board (ARB). It is, by nature, a professional course and is evaluated with quality and standards improved through the RIBA Validation Panel at four year intervals and in accordance with the University requirements for course review. We have links throughout the region and nationally with architectural practices, with external tutors coming from their own established practices to offer you the best possible tuition.

Modules
Modules
Core modules include:
Building Context
This module (year two) allows the student individually to select, develop and propose an initial design for a complex building within in an urban central, edge or village site. This work combines with the Year Two Design Workshops module and may support the Architectural Final Project.
Case Study
The written case study is material selected by you to provide tangible evidence of practical experience at a professional level. It should be based on a single project from live architectural practice, and it is for you to decide, in conjunction with the course leader, whether it is more representative to cover the entire span of a routine project, or to
concentrate on selected events within one contract which clearly demonstrate your ability to exercise professional judgements.
Design Project
The triple module (year two) focuses upon the design development and presentation of an Architectural Design. Students will present this major design project along with their portfolio of work for the Postgraduate Diploma course as part of the requirements for the ARB/RIBA Part II examinations.

Design Workshop
The design studio workshop module (year two) concentrates on the student's specific design requirements using the studio Building Context and Proposal module project. The student centred workshop will encourage the development of a learning portfolio focusing on cultural context, technical strategies and professional issues through studio based exercises.
Professional Practice & Contract Administration
The purpose of the Part 3 Examination is to assess the candidates ability to show an understanding of the Legal and organisational problems associated with the practice of architecture, in accordance with the best of available knowledge and skill, as currently practised in the profession.

After completion of the module you will have:
Ability to select and use appropriate styles of communication to professional standards.
Ability to integrate knowledge and understanding of a range of subject specific theories in an architect's professional practice and management of complex contracts and
Critically evaluate and reflect upon professional experience and demonstrate rigour in identifying an appropriate professional solution.
Record of Architectural Practice 2 (PEDR)
This module, the online Professional Experience and Development Record (PEDR), logs the time spent on various activities within the graduate?s office by entering the hours in the appropriate category. The division of time for every complete three-month period is
summarised automatically, giving an immediate indicator of the balance of experience being gained in practice.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and modules may change from time to time.

Part-time, 2012-13 entrants £63.90 per credit-point
The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.

To calculate the typical cost of study: Fee-per-credit-point (e.g £63.90) x credit-points per module (e.g20) = module cost of £1278. If you study 4 modules in a year the cost would be £5112 for that year.
The fee will be fixed at this level for each year of your course.

A scholarship of £1,500 is offered to all new full-time overseas fee paying students joining the first year of a course in 2012-13. The international scholarship is awarded in the first year of study only.
