About Your Course
The BA Business & Management Studies course is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of business, how it works and can be managed. It will assist you in gaining the skills and knowledge to plan and control operations in business organisations. The course is delivered on-line by distance learning and all the material is available over the web and in text books.

The course is available on a part-time distance learning basis as a one academic year level 6 top-up course. The course is accessible to you anywhere in the world and offers an opportunity to enhance your career development. We currently attract students from across the world, including Malawi, Nigeria and the European Union.

Core modules include:
Business Strategy
Business Strategy develops your critical and evaluative thinking and provides opportunities for you to apply skills, techniques and knowledge to the strategic issues facing organisations. It encourages you to take an integrated and holistic perspective on organisational development.
Consultancy Project
The Consultancy Project provides you with the opportunity to engage in a management based consultancy project. This module is delivered over the whole academic year and provides some of the context through which the skills and competences in the Professional Development module are developed. The module provides you with the opportunity to put the skills developed and knowledge assimilated into practice by completing a project that is devised and managed by you working as part of a student group. It exposes you to real management issues in organisations and encourages you to take a holistic view of their solution. Examples of the types of projects that you could become involved in are organisational reviews, evaluation of business ideas, marketing plans, HR plans, project planning and appraisal processes.
Management of International Business
Management of International Business develops your awareness and understanding of the key principles impacting on the management of international businesses. It examines the decisions facing managers of international businesses given the global business environment in which they operate.
Managing Capability
Managing Capability develops your strategic perspective of the critical nature, value and interrelatedness of organisational capability in achieving organisational objectives, meeting performance requirements and satisfying key stakeholder expectations.

Opportunities
BA Business & Management Studies is delivered by distance learning, meaning that you can continue to work whilst gaining an international management qualification. Many applicants will already be in employment and have some understanding of and experience with the nature and importance of management decision making within organisations. The course will help to broaden your vocational skills and knowledge and enhance your career prospects in the general area of business management.

BA Business & Management Studies is ideal for applicants wanting to pursue a management career in industry, commerce, the public sector, or the voluntary sector. A key aim of the course is to equip you with the essential knowledge and theory of business and management, whilst also offering the opportunity to develop management skills and capabilities.
Additional Information
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, assignments, examinations, group-work, projects, case studies and a dissertation. The emphasis is on having a variety of assessment to allow you to demonstrate your full range of skills.

UK & EU Fees Entry 2012

Fee Information
Our University's Board of Governors has agreed to set fees at £8,500 for full-time undergraduates starting in 2012.

There are no upfront fees for students. You will only start repaying tuition fees after you have graduated and once you are earning £21,000 or more. We also know that the repayments will be fixed at 9% of salary above £21,000. Therefore for someone earning £30,000 after graduation the repayment would be £67.50 per month.

National Scholarship Programme
If your household income is less than £25,000 a year you may be able to find help through the new £150m National Scholarship Programme. This is a scheme that is being introduced to help people from low income families wanting to go to university in 2012. The government has set national eligibility criteria based on household income, and each university has designed its own scholarship scheme with extra criteria.

Higher fees apply for ELQ students. You may be an ELQ student if you already have a BA/BSc and want to enrol on another Bachelors level course; if you already have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on a Bachelors level course OR if you already have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on another taught Masters level course.

If you think you may be categorised as studying for an ELQ, you are advised to contact our Admissions Office.

Leeds Metropolitan Bursary
Our Leeds Metropolitan Bursary is open to all full-time undergraduate students who pay annual tuition fees in full and receive the full Higher Education Maintenance Grant.

Bursaries currently stand at £500 for the first year of study, £800 for the second and £1,000 for the third and subsequent years of study. They are paid in full in February each year.

You can apply online for loans, grants and bursaries by visiting Student Finance Direct. If you meet the criteria your bursary will be paid automatically, however you must remember to consent to share your information with us when you make your application.
