BSC (HONS) CIVIL ENGINEERING
Civil engineering is a rewarding profession with engineers increasingly working in multi-disciplinary teams. This practical course uses real scenarios for you to select and apply appropriate techniques and solutions to engineering problems and allows you to work with students from other Built Environment courses. The flexible programme of core and option modules covers all of the major civil engineering disciplines will enable you to enter into careers in design, construction or operations. You will also develop a range of skills through IT applications, laboratory investigations, surveying exercises and project work to help increase your employability.

You will also be supported in recording your initial professional development for membership of the accrediting institutions.
To broaden your industry knowledge the course team also arrange regular personal development sessions. These are generally provided by leading industry professionals and will assist you in choosing an appropriate area of civil engineering to enter on graduation. We also have close links with the Institution of Civil Engineers and host a number of regional events for you to attend.
Some recent examples of jobs which our graduates have gone on to do include Graduate Civil Engineer for Balfour Beatty, Civil Engineer for Morrison Construction and Graduate Engineering for Dew Construction.

If you wish to further your studies you can progress onto an accredited technical postgraduate course.
Assessment methods include a mixture of coursework including structured tasks, presentations, practical work, reports and essays, group and individual projects including peer and self assessment, phase tests and end examinations.

Our University's Board of Governors has agreed to set fees at £8,500 for full-time undergraduates starting in 2012.
There are no upfront fees for students. You will only start repaying tuition fees after you have graduated and once you are earning £21,000 or more. We also know that the repayments will be fixed at 9% of salary above £21,000. Therefore for someone earning £30,000 after graduation the repayment would be £67.50 per month.

Scholarship Programme. This is a scheme that is being introduced to help people from low income families wanting
to go to university in 2012. The government has set national eligibility criteria based on household income, and
each university has designed its own scholarship scheme with extra criteria.
