About Your Course
This course is ideal if you are interested in how buildings work and how building projects are managed. We explore three major themes - the nature and role of the construction industry, management in the construction industry, and technology of buildings.

You will study the legal, financial and economic context in which the industry operates while also gaining an understanding of the other professions involved in building, such as surveying, quantity surveying and architectural technology, to give you an overview of the whole construction process.

We focus on developing skills in collaborative working and the integration of building information modelling into the construction process.

Your Future
Opportunities
You have the option of a placement year in industry to enhance your studies, providing hands-on experience which will be of great use to you in gaining future employment.

The course has strong links with the research activities of Leeds Sustainability Institute and with construction companies such as BAM and Bovis who are very active in the region. You are also encouraged to become student members of the The Chartered Institute of Building(CIOB). As a graduate you will also be exempt from the Association of Building Engineers exams.
Future Career
There will always be a need for new buildings and, while you will develop many transferable skills on this course, in the main you will be prepared to pursue management level positions in the construction industry, either on-site or office based.

As well as careers with construction companies, there are opportunities to work for organisations that require an understanding of construction, such as housing associations, local authorities, suppliers and consultancies, as well as opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills in sustainable development.
Jobs & Careers
We can help you make decisions on your career and recognise and develop your employability skills. We also offer an employment service with part-time student opportunities and graduate jobs. Find out more at www.leedsmet.ac.uk/careers

Did You Know?

Our course has strong links with the research activities of Leeds Sustainability Institute and with construction companies such as BAM and Bovis who are very active in the region

You Said, We Did

Our students told us they wanted more opportunities to engage with real world projects - that's why we now have a programme of visits to construction sites for this course

"Leeds Metropolitan graduates understand the theoretical side of business but, what is even more valuable, is that they also have a wider view of how business works in practice."
