About Your Course
This course brings together creative and technical aspects of multimedia so you can get the right skills to immediately contribute to the new media revolution when you graduate. On our course you will produce effective designs, interactive websites, audio-visual media and animated graphics whilst continually developing your ability to work as part of a creative production team. You will produce solutions to specified briefs and build a substantial portfolio of work that you can present to (and impress) future employers.

Core modules include:
3D Graphics
This module aims to provide you with the opportunity to develop basic 3D animation and prepare 3D geometry for use in virtual environments.
Animation Principles
This module aims to provide you with an appreciation of the different types of animation that are available and enable you to begin to apply fundamental animation techniques.
Authoring
This module aims to provide an introduction to the various tools available for producing interactive media and explain the generic design principles and technical considerations associated with media programming.
Graphics & Design
This module aims to develop an appreciation for design and visual aesthetics and provide you with the appropriate terminology, technical skills and basic visual awareness to be successful in the creative technology related industries.
The Multimedia Industry
This module aims to develop your understanding of the multimedia industry and how to succeed within it. It aims to develop your skills in working to a brief, producing professional documentation, developing original ideas, building successful relationships with clients and evidencing your employability & personal development.
Video Audio Concepts
This module aims to introduce you to the fundamentals of video and audio recording and editing. You will investigate operational principles, developing practical and creative skills in storyboarding, scripting, direction, lighting, camera control, location sound recording and audio capture and manipulation.

Animation Concepts
This module aims to provide you with an appreciation of the different types of animation that is available and help you to begin to apply fundamental animation techniques.
Group Project Implementation & Evaluation (Double Module)
The Group Project enables you to further your professional skills by participating in the work of a group in the design and development of a solution to a real-life or case-study based problem. The groups are required to deliver a client-specified solution and a number of sub-deliverables concerned with both the solution and the group's development. The module encourages the adoption of professional working practices at an individual and team level and develops skills related to research and project management. Supervisory support assists you in fulfilling these aims. In addition, the module aims to prepare you for supervised work experience/employment by developing employability skills and an awareness of the ethical and legal issues pertinent to your area of study.
Interactive Media Design
Interactive multimedia applications are currently being developed for a wide range of areas, such as education, work based learning, commercial presentations and gaming. In this module you will look at how good interactive software is developed. Areas such as software design, usability and evaluation will be explored. You will be introduced to these concepts in a practical way through the design and construction of your own interactive product.
Video Post - Production
The module aims to provide you with practical experience of producing content for a multi-media product to a professional standard. You will develop an understanding of the operational techniques for video and audio production for both hardware and software.
Visual Communication
This module aims to extend your creative understanding of how conceptual ideas are developed, constructed and communicated within a production environment. It further aims to actively promote a skill base for you to create, adapt and contextualise conceptual ideas and deliver them within an appropriate visual framework.
Visual Presentation
This module aims to extend your creative understanding of the technical aspects of creating visual material for print and screen. It extends your understanding of how professional design materials are developed, constructed and communicated within a production environment. It further aims to actively promote the techniques of digital production and representation necessary for the development and presentation of visual information in multimedia technology projects.
Web Design
This module aims to develop you to build a website using current web technologies, adhering to industry standards. You will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design as applied to web content. Best practices of digital workflow will be introduced to aid authoring efficiency and effectiveness.

Our hardware and software systems are updated each year ensuring you use the same software as you will find in industry. Our previous students have found work with Disney Interactive Studios, Sky TV and local media agencies.
Future Career
On completion of this course you can progress onto the final year of BSc (Hons) Multimedia Technology. Our graduates have entered careers in many areas including interactive development, graphic design, video production and editing, website design, motion graphics for TV, 3D graphics and visualisation, photography and media management. You will also have the opportunity to create your own professional enterprise, which will be supported by the University.

You are also expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the creative use of digital technology, as evidenced in your personal statement. You may be invited to an interview as part of the selection process. Applicants over 21 years may not require formal qualifications but must demonstrate the motivation to succeed and the potential to complete and pass the course. You may be required to provide evidence of previous learning or attend an interview.

UK & EU Fees Entry 2012

Fee Information
Our University's Board of Governors has agreed to set fees at £8,500 for full-time undergraduates starting in 2012.

There are no upfront fees for students. You will only start repaying tuition fees after you have graduated and once you are earning £21,000 or more. We also know that the repayments will be fixed at 9% of salary above £21,000. Therefore for someone earning £30,000 after graduation the repayment would be £67.50 per month.

National Scholarship Programme
If your household income is less than £25,000 a year you may be able to find help through the new £150m National Scholarship Programme. This is a scheme that is being introduced to help people from low income families wanting to go to university in 2012. The government has set national eligibility criteria based on household income, and each university has designed its own scholarship scheme with extra criteria.

Bursaries currently stand at £500 for the first year of study, £800 for the second and £1,000 for the third and subsequent years of study. They are paid in full in February each year.

You can apply online for loans, grants and bursaries by visiting Student Finance Direct. If you meet the criteria your bursary will be paid automatically, however you must remember to consent to share your information with us when you make your application.

The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.

To calculate the typical cost of study: Fee-per-credit-point (e.g £28) x credit-points per module (e.g20) = module cost of £560. If you study 4 modules in a year the cost would be £2240 for that year.
