About Your Course
Outdoor, sporting, music and cultural events are happening every day all over the world. Through this course you will gain the detailed knowledge of event planning, sponsorship and risk management needed to undertake the organisation of these events anywhere, to any scale. Incorporating a language gives you the added benefit of being truly global in your career - understanding the culture and current affairs of the language you study opens up a world of opportunity, giving you the ability to make important and informed business decisions.

From music to sport, TV to politics, not a day goes by without an event happening somewhere in the world. You will learn how to produce a wide variety of events, whether for a multi-national company or your own business, and everywhere in between.

You will gain a sound ability to speak, write, listen and read the English language as well as acquiring a comprehensive knowledge of the British business environment, politics and culture. You will also learn translation and interpreting skills and gain specific subject knowledge to help you get the career you want.

You will study 50% of English as a Foreign Language and 50% from BA (Hons) Events Management.

This module emphasises the use of the foreign language in group and teamwork scenarios.

This module will give you an understanding of how organisations and companies function, both in the UK as well as in the country's language you are studying.
Language in Use
This covers the practical application of language skills in a professional environment.

Programme Specification
Assessment
The assessment methods used include reports, essays, examinations, presentations, web-based material, reflective reports and a dissertation.

This mix enables you to get the most out of your course and develop skills that you can use in the workplace.
Teaching & Learning
Teaching methods used on the course are diverse and add variety to your learning experience. They include lectures, seminars and tutorials. You will also be given access to online self-study resources to support your learning.

Length of Study: Full-time 3 years, top-up 1 year. Part-time option available for EU students.

Classes: Typically 10-12 hours per week depending on honours degree chosen and year of study, plus at least an equal amount of self study. For some modules you will be required to buy a course book. Course book prices vary between approximately £18 and £25.

Class sizes: Maximum 24 students in the English language classes. Class sizes in the other subject areas will vary.

You can choose to study abroad at one of our partner universities in either the USA, Canada or Australia. You can do this for either one semester or opt for a year abroad after your second year at Leeds Metropolitan.

We offer a wide range of opportunities to undertake during your studies. You could join our Sports Centre and take up a new sport or learn a new one. Our library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you will always have access to books, learning resources and the internet. We also have many societies you can join, where you can meet new friends, get involved in events and get a fuller understanding of British life and culture.

Fee Information
Our University's Board of Governors has agreed to set fees at £8,500 for full-time undergraduates starting in 2012.

There are no upfront fees for students. You will only start repaying tuition fees after you have graduated and once you are earning £21,000 or more. We also know that the repayments will be fixed at 9% of salary above £21,000. Therefore for someone earning £30,000 after graduation the repayment would be £67.50 per month.

National Scholarship Programme
If your household income is less than £25,000 a year you may be able to find help through the new £150m National Scholarship Programme. This is a scheme that is being introduced to help people from low income families wanting to go to university in 2012. The government has set national eligibility criteria based on household income, and each university has designed its own scholarship scheme with extra criteria.

Leeds Metropolitan Bursary
Our Leeds Metropolitan Bursary is open to all full-time undergraduate students who pay annual tuition fees in full and receive the full Higher Education Maintenance Grant.

Bursaries currently stand at £500 for the first year of study, £800 for the second and £1,000 for the third and subsequent years of study. They are paid in full in February each year.

You can apply online for loans, grants and bursaries by visiting Student Finance Direct. If you meet the criteria your bursary will be paid automatically, however you must remember to consent to share your information with us when you make your application.
