About Your Course
This distinct course for developing graphic artists will appeal to adaptable students with enquiring minds. The course encourages you to develop your own approach to the study of graphic art and design through a combination of brief-led and self-initiated projects.

You will have the opportunity to sample a wide spectrum of disciplines - from design for print to illustration, from photography to typography, animation and moving image. This will allow you to find your strengths and your own style in response to communication problems.

We'll give you the opportunity to show off your projects to the public and impress industry by exhibiting your work at the end of your final year. Take a look at our 2012 final year Degree Show for Art, Architecture and Design students to find out more.

Here are some more examples of recent work from our students.

Your Future
Opportunities
You will drive your own learning and set your own targets, as you would in a real working environment. You will work alongside practitioners and on live briefs from organisations such as Harvey Nichols, the BBC, Leeds Art Gallery and the NHS.

Placement opportunities are available to you, with exchange opportunities to Hiroshima and Estonia, as well as partnerships with the Frans Masereel Centre in Belgium and the European Exchange Academy in Berlin.
Future Career
You may go on to work in a design studio but in an increasingly visual world, more industries are finding a purpose for graphic design - from developing online content to film, from voluntary arts organisations to advertising, from fashion design to architecture and television.

Your flexible, adaptable approach and entrepreneurial ability to generate projects will make you an attractive prospect for any working team. You may also wish to continue your studies with one of our postgraduate degrees.
Additional Information
Each year, up to three international and two UK trips are offered, most recently to New York, Berlin, Madrid and Krakow. Groups of students can attend the Frans Masereel Print Workshop in Belgium, and the European Exchange Academy in Beelitz, Germany, where for four weeks students work alongside peers from USA, Finland, Netherlands, and Belgium on an intensive programme of work that leads to a public exhibition. The courses participate in the Erasmus European Exchange programme with institutions from Estonia and Poland.

A wide range of practitioner's visits provides students with lectures, seminars, personal tutorial advice and support. Recent visitors have included, David Shrigley, Adrian Shaughnessy, Jonathan Barnbrook, Simon Roberts and A Practice For Everyday Life, John C Welchman, Leah Capaldi, Juneau Projects, Simon Martin, and Emily Wardill.

Over the past few years renowned sound artist Chris Watson has made an extended visit organizing a project of experimental sound recording and performance that draws upon his experience in field recording with David Attenborough at the BBC.
