MSC PUBLIC HEALTH - HEALTH PROMOTION
There is a focus on how people and communities can empower themselves to improve their health, and how public policy can create healthier societies and places. You will also investigate the psychology of behaviour change, together with how people learn about health. The research strand will enable you to critically appraise evidence and develop research skills.
We have been providing specialist postgraduate health promotion training for over thirty years, and our courses are up-to-date with all the dynamic and current changes taking place in public health in the UK and globally. The course is recognised by the Institute of Health Promotion and Education.
The Centre for Health Promotion Research has a track record for its evaluation work, research with communities, commitment to tackling inequalities in health, and providing an evidence base for practice.
Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries, giving a chance to share experience, learn from each other and develop collaborative practice.
An undergraduate degree 2.2 classification or above in a relevant subject.
Relevant subjects are focused toward health and the social sciences or can be professionally orientated such as nursing, teaching, environmental health, health visiting or community work. This is evidenced through your degree certificate.
Where applicants do not have a 2.2 classification of degree they will be asked to complete a satisfactory APL (Assessment of Prior Learning) portfolio of specified tasks.
Appropriate experience in the field of health education/promotion would normally be required. However, this can take the form of volunteer or unpaid work which should be clearly detailed within the work experience section of the application form, supporting statement and references where appropriate. If applicants have not got this type of experience, they should highlight an understanding of and commitment to, health promotion and public health in their supporting statement section of the application form.
Applicants must provide two satisfactory references in support of their application at the point of making the application.
If you have appropriate qualifications you may be considered for advanced entry onto your chosen degree course. To find out more or to make an appointment to discuss your options, please visit our Education Guidance pages.
