About Your Course
This course is designed to support the professional development of staff working predominantly in the Higher Education sector. It is intended to accredit the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) learning of all those involved in the delivery and support of learning, teaching and assessment, including lecturing, technical and learning support staff. It is also intended to support the learning of staff new to teaching in Higher Education. A pre-requisite of the course is, therefore, that participants have access to HE students in a learning and teaching capacity. In addition, the scheme provides the opportunity for staff to gain either fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
The target award is the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (60 points at level M/HE4). The planned duration of the award is 1 year and the maximum period of registration is 3 years.
Participation requires around 600 hours of learning. This is delivered through an intensive three-day induction (runs in January, June and September), taught sessions (alternate Wednesday afternoons through the academic year), peer observations, learning set (group) study and discussion, and individual reflection, application to context and research.

Requirements: Participants on this course are employed within the higher education sector as lecturers or supporters of learning. A first degree, or equivalent is normally required, but applicants with other approved qualifications and/or proven levels of competence in terms of knowledge and skill may be eligible for admission as long as they have a full range of lecturing duties. Admission to module 1 of the course may be open to learning support officers in higher education with a more restricted range of duties.

Applicants whose first language is not English, with certificated qualifications, professional qualifications and/or appropriate work experiences will be considered. Applicants may be required to undertake additional English language courses. The University provides excellent support for such students.

The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.
To calculate the typical cost of study: Fee-per-credit-point (e.g £33.33) x credit-points per module (e.g20) = module cost of £666.6. If you study 4 modules in a year the cost would be £2666.4 for that year.
The total cost of a Part-time course is determined by the number of modules you take in an academic year. Modules are made up of credit-points, and Part-time fees are typically quoted as fee-per-credit-point.
