About Your Course
This course is for students who intend to become Landscape Architects, whether you have a related degree, relevant experience or are looking for a career change. The course has full accreditation from the Landscape Institute and a postgraduate certificate can be awarded on successful completion of the first year.

The flexibility in the course design enables you to customise your programme of studies according to your individual needs, interests and career aspirations. Landscape practitioners highly regard this design-based course, which explores values, knowledge, skills and techniques appropriate to the development of creative, reflective designers. The course provides opportunities to respond to contemporary trends and issues in landscape architecture which may include live community projects and competitions including: planting for people and nature, land art, urban design analysis, city park strategies. Year 2 is joint with PGDip/MA Landscape Architecture.

Unique to Leeds Metropolitan, you will also benefit from a Landscape Resource Centre and Experimental Gardens.

Your creativity is developed through exciting design-based projects, taught by an academic team who have a wide range of professional expertise and research interests. Students regularly win design competitions and work on live projects.

Arts, Plants & the Environment
Explores the nature, development and growth of environmental art. You will develop an appreciation and understanding of art as a process and an appreciation of plants as an inspiration, context and medium for environmental art.
Design with Plants
Develops your theoretical understanding of the wide scale context of planting issues, key designers and stylistic variation.
Landscape Architecture and Design Project
This module will enhance the development of your design skills through a comprehensive landscape architecture challenge from project inception to a resolved design.
Landscape Character Assessment & GIS
In this module you will gain knowledge of and experience in methods for surveying, recording and analysing the various components of landscape character assessment.
Rural Landscape Planning and Design
In this module you will learn to understand the issues associated with upland and lowland multi-purpose woodland and afforestation, together with an appreciation of the factors associated with designing with trees in a rural context.
Urban Landscape Studies
Develops your understanding of theory and context which supports the development of individual values and design philosophy. You will learn to analyse urban environments through a critical understanding of key aspects of the human-environment relationship.

Landscape architecture is an exciting wide ranging design profession. It combines design with a concern for our environment, to improve the quality of people's lives. Landscape Architects design gardens, parks, playgrounds, urban squares and nature reserves. They also work with other professions and local communities on large scale environmental projects such as urban regeneration, rural conservation and the impact of new developments in the landscape.

Landscape practices notify us of job vacancies which has helped many graduates find rewarding careers in private design consultancies, local government agencies and environmental organisations in the UK and worldwide. You also have the option to transfer credits towards the MA in Urban Design.
