About Your Course
The Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) is part of the vocational stage of training for those wishing to qualify as solicitors. The course is recognised by the Solicitors' Regulatory Authority (SRA) and meets the Legal Practice Course Outcomes set by the SRA.
The LPC prepares you by offering a learning environment that focuses on case studies that provide a general foundation for practice in the solicitors profession. In the workshops you are supported in the development of your understanding and exploration of concepts of professionalism and the demands of professional practice. Based in the heart of the city's legal district, Leeds Law School encourages and supports you to improve your employment prospects by building links with the legal community. The subject coverage is prescribed by the SRA and delivered by staff with significant professional expertise (all are qualified lawyers).
All students on the LPC have a professional mentor a legal practitioner in the local area who can provide practical support and advice during the period of study and work-based learning and career opportunities.

Part 1
Stage One - Core Practice Areas and skills Covers the core practice areas of Property Law and Practice, Business Law and Practice, and Civil and Criminal Litigation. The LPC at Leeds places an emphasis on the specialism of Litigation, reflecting the aspirations of students and the needs of the local profession. It provides coverage of the legal skills of Practical Legal Research, Writing and Drafting, Interviewing and Advising and Advocacy as well as Professional Conduct and Regulation, Wills and Administration of Estates, Solicitors Accounts Rules and Taxation.
Part 2
Stage Two - Electives The second stage of the LPC covers elective subjects. Modules may include (subject to student demand):

Private Acquisitions.

Assessment
The compulsory and elective subjects are assessed by way of open book/restricted material examinations. Written skills are assessed by way of practical demonstrations. The oral skills of interviewing, advising and advocacy are assessed by recording on video.

A wide range of teaching and learning methods are employed, including lectures, small and large group work and seminars.
Your Future
Future Career
Students who complete the LPC are able to proceed to the next stage of legal training as a solicitor by way of a training contract. The LPC provides credit points at masters level. Students can enhance future employability by completing a top-up dissertation with a view to being awarded a Masters in Law.
