About Your Course
The 10-week Pre-Sessional is designed for international students wishing to study one of the university's undergraduate or postgraduate courses. This course is ideal if you need to improve your English language skills before you start your chosen degree. It is aimed at students whose English level is half an IELTS point lower than required to study for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme. As well as developing your academic English and study skills, you will learn how to use the wide range of resources available on campus and online to support your studies and learning.

This course offers extensive practice of academic writing, reading, listening and note taking as well as presentation and seminar skills. There is a strong focus on preparing for successful university study and understanding UK university culture, conventions and expectations.

If you already hold a conditional offer for a course at Leeds Metropolitan, successful completion will meet the English Language Requirement of the University for most courses.

We also offer an undergraduate foundation course, CertHE International Foundation Studies, for students who want to progress onto an undergraduate programme of study. Students who want to improve their English and study skills to progress on to postgraduate degree can take the Graduate Diploma or International Masters. (Please see the Related Course links below).

In the recent British Council inspection of our English Language Teaching provision in the School of Languages we are pleased to announce that we gained 8 points of excellence. This is an outstanding achievement and places us in the top 10% of British Council accredited Language Schools in the UK. Particular excellence was noted in teaching, teachers' qualifications, academic management, learner training, premises and academic resources, the leisure programme and pastoral care.
