4-WEEK PRE-SESSIONAL
Through this preparation course you will develop your academic English and study skills and learn how to use the wide range of resources available on campus and online to support your studies and learning.
You will develop and practise those vital academic skills you will need to be successful on your course. This will include effective reading, taking notes from lectures, writing references and bibliographies, and time management. By the end of the course you will be fully aware of the expectations of university study in the UK and the similarities and differences between university study in your country and in Britain.
We also offer an undergraduate foundation course, CertHE International Foundation Studies for students who want to progress onto an undergraduate programme of study, and for students who want to improve their English and study skills to progress on to postgraduate degree, we provide an International Masters.
In the recent British Council inspection of our English Language Teaching provision in the School of Languages we are pleased to announce that we gained 8 points of excellence. This is an outstanding achievement and places us in the top 10% of British Council accredited Language Schools in the UK. Particular excellence was noted in teaching, teachers' qualifications, academic management, learner training, premises and academic resources, the leisure programme and pastoral care.
Opportunities
Learning will take place through seminars, small group and individual tutorials, as well as independent learning. You will also be given access to online self-study resources. You will have a personal tutor who you will meet regularly. There is no formal assessment, but you will receive regular feedback on your work. By the end of the course you will be fully aware of the expectations of university study in the UK and the similarities and differences between university study in your country and in Britain.

Length of Study: 4 weeks
Classes: Minimum 15 hours per week plus an approximately equal amount of self study. For some modules you will be required to buy a course book. Course book prices vary between approximately £18 and £25.
Class size: maximum 20 students
Minimum age upon entry: 17
Successful completion of this course guarantees you entry onto many undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Leeds Metropolitan and prepares you for study at a British university.

The fee shown here is the 'gross' fee for new students starting in the 2012/13 academic year, before the application of any scholarship or discount. A scholarship of £1,500 is available to new full-time students studying an MA, MSC or MBA (180 credits) who are eligible to pay Home/EU fees. For students studying for an award such as a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), or part-time, a pro rata scholarship is available. The table below provides further details:

A scholarship of £1,500 is offered to all new full-time overseas fee paying students joining the first year of a course in 2012-13. The international scholarship is awarded in the first year of study only. Please note that students joining a programme part way through or joining a dedicated top-up course are not eligible for this scholarship. Only students paying the full 2012-13 overseas fee are eligible for this scholarship.

Higher fees apply for ELQ students. You may be an ELQ student if you already have a BA/BSc and want to enrol on another
Bachelors level course; if you already have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on a Bachelors level course OR if you already
have an MA/MSc and want to enrol on another taught Masters level course.
