About Your Course
Strategic project management concerns itself with the delivery of projects in a strategic context. Programmes of projects managed with this strategic perspective have the potential to add significant value to an organisation.
In particular this course is suitable for people who have been working on projects as well as graduates of the BSc (Hons) Project Management who wish to take their studies to the next level, but also suitable for non-cognate graduates. The course is research-led and seeks to utilise contemporary issues in the field of strategic and project management, from practice and your own experience to inform the application of theory. Consequently, you will be encouraged to apply your own workplace dilemmas as research topics.
You will have the opportunity to publish papers in local and international conferences hosted by masters students. There is also an optional opportunity to join annual visits to Weurzburg and Toulouse to interact with fellow MSc students and European project focussed companies.
The course is accredited by the Association of Project Managers (APM). We maintain and encourage close links with the APM and a wide spectrum of organisations engaged in projects, which informs much of the course teaching.

The course runs popular conferences led by students work, and an international project management conference in association with Wuerzburg Fachhochschule University and the Association for Project Management's 'Inspire' project.
The Centre for Project Management has a UK wide presence, attracting students of project management from across the country. You will have the opportunity to publish papers in local and international conferences hosted by masters students. A research-led approach means that in addition to research developed by staff and students on the course, each individual will have many opportunities to investigate areas of particular interest and relevance.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Project management might be said to be problem solving. Innovation then becomes the problem solving tool of the project manager. Seen as a key value adding tool, this topic is examined in detail. Parallels are drawn between the entrepreneur and the Project Manager?s role.
People in Projects
Focuses on managing others (in teams) and managing oneself. You will study organisational behaviour, individual awareness, efficacy and eliance.
Programme Management
Managing several projects in a coordinated way to successfully implement a strategy is typically referred to aas 'Programme Management'. Many project managers will have more than one project to deliver. Understanding the advantageous of coordination, performance monitoring and benefits management will enhance all your projects and equip you to oversee and enhance the delivery of a group of them.
Project Futures
Phenomenological and case study examination of contemporary issues, comes together with a series of guest lectures and day conferences to examine what the future of project management might look like.

Project management is a doing profession. This module encourages you to build a tool kit of skills, tools, techniques and processes that ight be applied to the situations raised in research into contemporary issues.
Project Strategy
Project management is a doing profession. This module encourages you to build a tool kit of skills, tools, techniques and processes that might be applied to the situations raised in research into contemporary issues. This module will equip you to deliver projects operationally, maintain a strategic focus and it includes the management contracts.
Strategy, Economics & Finance
You will examine and analyse the strategy process and the nature of strategy. You will also consider the application and failure of strategy in organisations, and the role of programme and project management in this.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to enter a career in all sectors where project work approaches are being undertaken, be they public, private or entrepreneurial. The application of contemporary issues allows the course to be utilised as an on-going consultancy for directors and strategists, or those with aspirations to make a difference to the organisation they are in. Recent graduates of the course have started their own businesses, won new commercial markets for their company and found employment in new areas.

The fee shown here is the 'gross' fee for new students starting in the 2012/13 academic year, before the application of any scholarship or discount. A scholarship of £1,500 is available to new full-time students studying an MA, MSC or MBA (180 credits) who are eligible to pay Home/EU fees. For students studying for an award such as a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), or part-time, a pro rata scholarship is available. The table below provides further details:

A scholarship of £1,500 is offered to all new full-time overseas fee paying students joining the first year of a course in 2012-13. The international scholarship is awarded in the first year of study only. Please note that students joining a programme part way through or joining a dedicated top-up course are not eligible for this scholarship. Only students paying the full 2012-13 overseas fee are eligible for this scholarship.

Graduates of Leeds Metropolitan University and partner colleges within the Regional University Network (RUN), qualify for a 10% discount on postgraduate tuition fees if they have graduated within the last five years.
